EMDR is one of the more innovative ways I have found to help patients with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I went through the formal training about 15 years ago, and maintain my membership with EMDRIA. You can read more about this at
EMDR is not for everyone. Before I recommend it, I spend time with the person to find out what the issues are, their strengths, their supports and other vital information.
People usually ask, "How many sessions will it take?" Well, that's a complicated question and depends on the persons overall wellness and balance and the trauma. I have had people resolve an issue in one EMDR session, but for some people with severe or multiple traumas it takes much longer.
In any case, I always begin with an evaluation so the person and I can see if we feel we can work together and if EMDR is appropriate for them.
